She was having a crappy time
If there are two things Canadians are known for besides a love of hockey, it’s their effusive politeness and undying devotion to coffee and doughnut chain Tim Hortons. Seems like this week we’ve found at least one Canadian who’s the exception to that rule.
That’s because an as-of-yet-unnamed British Columbia woman was detained by police after launching into an angry tirade that culminated in throwing her own excrement at a Tim Hortons employee, who then summoned the Mounties. Yup. It’s as gross as it sounds. Watch the security camera footage (no audio, for better or worse) at your own risk:
Fittingly, her anger seems to have stemmed from the restrictive bathroom policy at this Langley, BC Tim Horton’s location. “Our current understanding is that the team member used their discretion in this case and denied access to this guest based on past behaviour and out of concern for the immediate safety of team members and guests in the restaurant,” the company said in a statement obtained by local news outlet The Province. “As matters escalated, the Team Member contacted local authorities for assistance.”
Much like Starbucks until very recently, Tim Hortons has what the statement calls “a restricted access policy for restrooms to ensure the well-being of our guests,” which might explain why the literal shit hit the proverbial fan in this case.
After flinging her feces, the woman was detained by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, but eventually released. However, she will attend court at a later date, assuming Canada’s legal system can figure out how to charge someone for throwing turds.
Tip of the cap to that brave employee, who hopefully dodged the flying droppings and definitely deserves some extra vacation time. And if this is the kind of thing that happens at Canada’s homegrown version of Dunkin’ Donuts, I shudder to think of what must go down here in the States.
