Dearest Strawberry Pie,
As the poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning so precisely worded in the sonnet that I thought was actually from Shakespeare for most of my young life, "How do I love thee, let me count the ways..." Strawberry Pie, you are flawless, devourable, and so easily shared (though, I usually don't wanna) with family and friends. If I were to count all of the ways in which I--and really, the world--loves you, the list would go on through the next 4 months. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to at least start it now.
Reason #1. The strawberry is basically the Gisele Bundchen of the fruit world. How do I know this? Because of desserts that look like this. That's how.
Seriously... so lovely.
Reason #2. Strawberries and cream, people. Ice cream, whipped cream, cream cheese-- take your pick. Or just mix it all together. Combining strawberries with cream has been the a dessert of early summer for, oh I don't know, ever. Add some chocolate to that mix and holy cow, you've got everything.
Reason #3. Shape and form. Because of their supple curvy pyramid shapes, strawberries offer the potential to create some seriously pleasing geometric designs when they meet pie. Which provides a very real sense of calming satisfaction for some people. You know who you are. On behalf of strawberry pie, you're welcome.
Reason #4. Finding the right basket of fresh strawberries from the farmer's market is akin to reaching produce nirvana. There's nothing like having their sweet delicate scent greeting you as you approach a farmer's stall... it's almost as if the berries choose you. If this moment is the only incentive you have to visit the farmer's market this year, it will have been a shopping season well spent.
Reason #5. Strawberry pie is a timeless classic--it's elegance and simple charm never diminishes. Every summer you come together, and it's like the first time all over again. Which means you'll probably feel like this most any time you make one:
