For years, Pop-Tarts have been a tasty treat that you could also pass off as a very rushed breakfast in a pinch. They’re available in a plethora of sweet flavors ranging from the fruity to the downright dessert-like. But for the latest Kellogg’s toaster pastry offering, things are about to get a bit saltier.
Pop-Tarts were originally billed as a breakfast food — though as the number of wild varieties has continued to grow over the decades, you’d be forgiven for thinking they’re better suited for dessert. During last year’s taste test of 21 different Pop-Tart iterations, flavors like Chocolate Fudge and Strawberry Milkshake were more common than the classic Unfrosted Strawberry.
Food doesn’t get much easier than Pop-Tarts. Toss one in a toaster or a microwave, and its ready to eat before you know it. Not feeling up to such extensive cooking? You can also eat them straight out of the package. Okay, but what if you’re crumb-adverse? Now, Kellogg’s got that covered too with new Pop-Tarts Bites—the first actual Pop-Tarts that you can easily eat in one mouthful.
Being hyper-excited when a shiny foil package of Pop-Tarts somehow finds its way into your possession isn't something most adults make a point to admit--even if it is essentially the real adult-life equivalent of finding a golden [but silver] ticket to an enchanting place where eating copious amounts of sugar and demonstrating childlike innocence is applauded. But whatever, we get it, enjoying something highly processed and void of nutrients on any level feels dirty, and as people who claim to genuinely revel in cooking and eating... we're supposed to be "above it."
