Ingredients
- 1 cup(s) shortening (Crisco) creamed
- 1 1/2 cup(s) granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoon(s) cocoa
- 2 ounce(s) red food coloring
- 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
- 1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
- 1 cup(s) buttermilk
- 2 1/2 cup(s) cake flour sifted
- 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) vinegar
- 1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
Preparation
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- 2. Grease and flour 3x 9" cake pans
- 3. Cream the shortening
- 4. Mix cocoa food coloring in a custard cup with a tiny whisk then mix with the shortening.
- 5. Add sugar, eggs, salt and vanilla to mix
- 6. Alternately add flour and buttermilk while mixing well
- 7. LAST mix vinagar and baking soda then fold into the cake mixture
- 8. Pour into pans
- 9. Bake for 20-30 min
- 10. Allow to cool then frost with Fabulous Frosting
