Ingredients

  • 1 cup(s) shortening (Crisco) creamed
  • 1 1/2 cup(s) granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoon(s) cocoa
  • 2 ounce(s) red food coloring
  • 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
  • 1 cup(s) buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 cup(s) cake flour sifted
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon(s) baking soda

Preparation

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. 2. Grease and flour 3x 9" cake pans
  3. 3. Cream the shortening
  4. 4. Mix cocoa food coloring in a custard cup with a tiny whisk then mix with the shortening.
  5. 5. Add sugar, eggs, salt and vanilla to mix
  6. 6. Alternately add flour and buttermilk while mixing well
  7. 7. LAST mix vinagar and baking soda then fold into the cake mixture
  8. 8. Pour into pans
  9. 9. Bake for 20-30 min
  10. 10. Allow to cool then frost with Fabulous Frosting
