Waffle Cookies

Makes 4 dozen cookies and 1 1/2 cups frosting

Ingredients

BATTER:
4 (1-oz.) squares unsweetened baking chocolate
1 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
CHOCOLATE FROSTING:
2 (1-oz.) squares unsweetened baking chocolate
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Preparation

Batter: Melt together chocolate and butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat; stir in sugar until dissolved. Remove from heat and whisk in eggs, vanilla and flour until blended. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a heated waffle iron; bake according to manufacturer's instructions. Top with Chocolate Frosting.

Chocolate Frosting: Melt chocolate and butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat; remove from heat and add milk and vanilla. Mix in powdered sugar to desired consistency.
