Vanilla Frosting

Yield enough for one (9-inch) 2-layer cake


  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 3 (1-ounce) squares semisweet chocolate
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

How to Make It

  1. Combine butter and chocolate in a heavy saucepan; cook over low heat until chocolate melts. Add milk, sugar, and syrup; bring mixture to a boil, and cook 2 1/2 minutes.

  2. Remove from heat, and cool 5 minutes. Add vanilla; stir well. Beat on high speed of electric mixer for 10 minutes or until mixture reaches spreading consistency.
