Unfried Green Tomatoes with Fresh Tomato Gravy

    Love this recipe! its a great way to fufill a craving for fried green tomatoes. I made my gravy with shiitake mushrooms and it gave it a great twist. I also ran out of fresh tomatoes and used a can of roasted tomatoes which added a deeper flavor. The gravy would be great on just about anything!

    I didn't make the gravy, but unfortunately, the tomato part of the recipe really didn't come out well for me. I'm a Southern girl, and this just wasn't close enough to satisfy my craving this week. And yes, I do have fresh green tomatoes in almost December down here, which is amazing!

    I've never had true fried green tomatoes so don't have a comparison, but these were tasty. I liked the warm soft tomatoes in contrast to the crisp breading. The tomato gravy was fine, but I enjoyed the mushrooms/onion best, and would use this in a classic brown gravy instead of pairing tomato with tomato.
