Custard Filled Torte

Custard Filling in heavy saucepan-1)1/2 cup sugar/1/4 cup cornstarch and 1/4 tsp.salt.2)Stir in 2 cups milk.3)Over medium heat,stirring,until very thick.4)Beat 2 eggs.5)Stir in small amount of hot mixture.6)stir back into pan.7)Cook,stirring,until,bubby.8)Add 1 tbsp.butter and 1 tsp. vanilla extract.9)Pour into bowl.10)Cover.11)Chill.12)Fold in 1/4 cup thick orange marmalade. tips-1)You can substitute 1 pkg vanilla pudding prepared according to directions for the custard,if you wish.

  • 1 1/2 cup(s) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup(s) sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 2 teaspoon(s) grated lemon rind
  • 1/2 cup(s) butter
  • 1 egg (Slightly beaten)
  • custard filling (Recipe follows)
  • powder sugar
  • strawberries (optional)


1)Mix flour,sugar,salt and lemon rind.2)Cut in butter.3)Add egg and mix well with hands until smooth.4)Line a 9-inch spring form pan with waxed paper.5)Press half the dough evenly in bottom of pan.6)Filip over onto cookie sheet.7)Peel off paper.8)Repeat with remaining dough using a second cookie sheet.9)With dull knife,mark off 10 wedges on one round of dough.10)Don't cut through dough.11)Prick both rounds with fork.12)Bake at 325`f for 15 to 18 min,or until firm.13)Cool slightly.14)Remove to wire racks.15)Put unmarked round of pastry in spring form pan.16)Spread with filling.17)Top with remaining layer.18)Press down wight and cover and chill.
