Turkey Kielbasa with German Kraut

Prep time 15 mins
Cook time 31 mins
Yield 4 servings (serving size: 2 pieces kielbasa and about 3/4 cup sauerkraut mixture)
Compared to traditional kielbasa recipes, this sausage and kraut dish is lower in fat and has fewer calories, thanks to the turkey kielbasa. It's still slightly high in sodium, though, if you're watching that.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 pound turkey kielbasa, cut into 8 pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 (16-ounce) jar Bavarian-style sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine or fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 teaspoons caraway seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
