This soup is de-o-licious! I love soup in the winter. We just had it alone for dinner one night. It's not bland, it has great flavor. Instead of chard, I used a little bit of spinach and I used the whole, large can of whole tomatoes (instead of just 4). We will definitely keep making this soup.

This is a hearty, healthy soup that's perfect for a cold winter night. I like tomatoes, so I used a 28-ounce can of whole Progesso tomates with basil, and added all of the juice. Would definitely make it again.

I have been making my way through the "Winter Soups with a Spin" 1/2009. Made this recipe tonight, we love garlic so I added four cloves instead of two. This soup is great! For the croutons I used a loaf of bread with olives and it really was tastey. We eat out a bunch, and this was the best! Loved the Swiss chard. Will make again.

After a day of skiing, this soup was so easy to make, very flavorful and delicious. Comfort food at its best! Will make this again and again as my husband and I loved it! Had everything in the cupboard except Swiss chard - used kale instead -- yummy!

I loved this. It is so wholesome and satisfying. An easy way to squeeze in some veggies. I think I enjoy my crusty bread on the side though, esp. if I had company, but the whole family enjoyed it. I will be making again. If you do the bread, make sure to do what the recipe says.

Just made this soup tonight and it was very good. Next time I will add some italian sausage or something, for my husband needed some more substance, but I loved it! I also added a little rosemary and celery salt for some more flavor. Definitely will make again.

This is a delicious & hearty soup that the whole family enjoys- Instead of torn bread pieces, I make crostini from thinly sliced bread, olive oil & garlic. It takes a little bit longer, but is worth it.

Great for a fall night! I added cooked sausage, and blanched and peeled 4 tomatoes instead of using canned tomatoes and it was perfect.

Love this soup & freezes great! Perfect as is, though I prefer kale to chard in the recipe. Lentils are great too, if you are looking for more fiber or don't have cannelinis on hand.

I'm trying to incorporate more beans and lentils into my diet (because I don't like them but I know they are good for me). This soup was SO yummy!! Not sure what kind of greens I used because I purchased in Rome and no one could tell me English translation. But they were sturdy leafy greens and worked well! I added just a touch of pecorino before serving and this took care of any need for salt or pepper. I had one bowl with bread and one without (that's how good the soup is) and I highly suggest including the bread if you have access to a good loaf! Although it was quite tasty on its own, the bread makes it more 'comforting' I think.

This recipe was fabulous. Chard was a new twist for me. I could only find organic red chard as the store was out of Swiss chard. Tasted great, nonetheless.

This soup is delicious. I used fines herbs while cooking it as my fresh basil must have escaped from the grocery kart. I also substituted kale as it was more readily available. It gets even better as leftovers for lunch.

We weren't as impressed as other posters. Followed the recipe exactly, and it was fine but pretty bland if not for adding generous amounts of parmesan and pepper.
