This delicious variation on traditional macaroni and cheese is easy to prepare and perfect for weeknight family dinners and weekend entertaining alike. Add cooked chicken, shrimp, or sausage to the pasta bake and serve with a green salad and fresh vegetables for a hearty, well-rounded meal.
Prepare ziti according to package directions; drain and return to pot.
Stir together Alfredo sauce and sour cream; toss with ziti until evenly coated. Spoon half of mixture into a lightly greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish.
Stir together ricotta cheese and next 3 ingredients; spread evenly over pasta mixture in baking dish. Spoon remaining pasta mixture evenly over ricotta cheese layer; sprinkle evenly with mozzarella cheese.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until bubbly.
Note: For testing purposes only, we used Buitoni Refrigerated Alfredo Sauce.
Ziti pasta is shaped in long, thin tubes; penne or rigatoni pasta may be substituted, if desired.
I usually make half the recipe. Can use any pasta type. I use non fat greek plain yogurt instead of sour cream (less fat, more protein, same taste), light cottage cheese in place of ricotta and light Alfredo sauce. The cheese on top can be any type of white cheese - pepper jack is really good!
Easy recipe and a crowd pleaser.
I was looking for a recipe of our favorite dish Pepperoni Spinach Alfredo from Strings Italian Café in Las Vegas. I wanted to make it as a bake though so I used this recipe and added a few more ingredients. I wanted to add vegetables to make more healthy.
-Baby Bella mushrooms
-1c chopped pepperoni
-1c red pepper
Even with the spinach & mushrooms, I bet kids would love it.
This was so good. All I make is the traditional macaroni and cheese and then I came across this recipe and I decided to give it a try. Glad I did, it was very good. The only thing I will do next time is add a little salt, I felt that it was a little bland.
I followed the recipe exactly, and this dish got rave reviews from young and old as part of Easter dinner. It was a great complement to the rest of the "Laid Back Easter Menu", and it was such a time-saver being able to prepare it a day ahead and just pop it in the oven on Easter Sunday. I will definitely make this again! Great as a leftover, too.
Do you like the chicken fetucinne alfredo from Fazolis... I use this recipe but I use feta cheese instead of ricotta cheese cause I can never find it and the Parsley wasnt fresh but from the little dried container.. I of course used boneless chicken breasts in small pieces and fried it with some italian seasoning.. added it to alfredo mixture before adding the ziti noodles. This is one of my new favorites!
This was pretty bland, even though I added roasted chicken breast and hot Italian sausage. It is a good base, but next time I'll play around with a lot of spices to make it more flavorful. Very easy recipe to put together.
