I figured it would taste ketchupy if I made it and so it did. I believe this sauce would be an alright base for improvement for another bbq sauce, but it does not taste well as a sauce itself. Therefore, I give you two stars. One for a simple sauce that is base for imrpovement, and two, because you are on the right track for a bbq sauce.
Texas Barbecue Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 small onion, grated
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pepper
- 1 small bay leaf
Preparation
- Bring all ingredients to a boil in a large saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes. Remove and discard bay leaf from sauce before serving.
