Swiss Chard with Almonds and Shallots

"I had some greens left over from another recipe. I thought the almonds might complement them, and happily, it turned out well. This makes a great side dish for two people." -Alisa Davis, Washington, DC

  • Yield: 2 servings (serving size: 1/2 cup)


  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons thinly sliced shallots
  • 3 cups sliced Swiss chard (about 3 ounces)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon slivered almonds, toasted


Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add shallots; cook 2 minutes or until shallots begin to brown, stirring frequently. Stir in chard. Cover and cook 2 minutes or until chard wilts. Remove from heat; stir in salt and black pepper. Sprinkle with almonds.
