- 1 pound fresh green beans, snapped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Pinch of pepper
- 2 whole cloves
- 1 bay leaf
How to Make It
Cook beans, covered, in a small amount of boiling salted water 20 minutes. Drain.
Saute onion in butter in a medium saucepan until tender. Add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Combine remaining ingredients; add to onion mixture, stirring until smooth. Add beans; cover and cook over low heat 15 minutes or until beans are tender. Discard cloves and bay leaf.
