Cream butter in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs; beat well.
Sift together flour, soda, and spices in a medium mixing bowl; add to creamed mixture, stirring well. Stir in raisins. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Roll to 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface; cut with a 2 1/2-inch round cutter. Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets; bake at 350° for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets, and cool on wire racks.
