Strawberry-Basil Limeade

Oxmoor House
Yield Serves 8 (serving size: 1 cup)
Buy strawberries at their seasonal peak and taste them--if they're very sweet, you may want to adjust the amount of sugar syrup you use to make this limeade.

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup basil leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups strawberries, quartered
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice (about 12 limes)
  • 5 cups lime-flavored sparkling water, chilled
  • Ice cubes
  • Basil leaves (optional)

How to Make It

  1. Combine first 3 ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, and cool 30 minutes or until room temperature.

  2. Strain basil mixture through a sieve into a large pitcher, discarding basil. Place strawberries and lime juice in a blender; process until smooth. Add strawberry mixture to basil mixture. Gently stir in sparkling water. Serve immediately over ice. Garnish with basil leaves, if desired.
