Serves 4 (serving size: 1 cake slice and 1/3 cup berry mixture)

1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 cups halved strawberries
4 (2-inch-thick) slices angel food cake
How to Make It
Combine sugar and vinegar in a large bowl; stir until sugar dissolves. Add berries; toss gently to coat. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Spoon berries and sauce over cake slices.
This just was not to our liking. I don't feel it worked with the cake. I would however serve the balsamic & brown sugar macerated strawberries over a spinach salad or mixed greens. But definitely never again with cake. Must be an acquired taste.
If you are seeking an easy, but elegant dessert, this recipe was made for you. The snap of balsamic vinegar mixed with brown sugar, plus the flavor of the strawberries is incredible. It is an interesting dessert and everyone has loved it. I add sprigs of mint for additional color and shaved dark chocolate. Voila!
