Bring 6 cups water to a boil in a large saucepan, and remove from heat. Add tea bags to pan; cover and steep for 5 minutes. Discard tea bags. Add 2 cups orange juice and next 4 ingredients (through lemon rind); bring to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Strain tea mixture through a fine sieve into a bowl, and discard solids. Stir in 3/4 cup bourbon.
I made this for a Super Bowl party and everyone loved it! I brewed the tea for about 15 minutes instead of 5. I used store-bought orange juice, and, since I was out of cinnamon sticks, I just sprinkled in some Saigon cinnamon. I will definitely make this again!
My father used to make Russian tea (Tang + instant tea + cinnamon stick) when I was a child. This is a better, more adult version. I think the tea bags need to soak longer than 5 minutes to give it a strong tea flavor. Otherwise, we've followed this recipe twice with great success, and I'm making it again tomorrow for another holiday party.
