How to Make It

Step 1

Cream butter in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy, Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Step 2

Dissolve soda in buttermilk; add to creamed mixture, beating until well blended.

Step 3

Sift together flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger; add to creamed mixture, stirring until well blended. Stir in raisins and pecans.

Step 4

Drop dough by teaspoonfuls 4 inches apart onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 425° for 6 to 8 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheets. Remove from cookie sheets, and cool completely on wire racks.
