Spiced Peaches

2 (29-ounce) cans peach halves in heavy syrup
2 teaspoons whole cloves
4 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 cup vinegar


Drain peach halves, reserving syrup. Combine syrup, cloves, cinnamon sticks, sugar, and vinegar in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil; cover, and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat; add peach halves, and cool completely. Refrigerate in an airtight glass container overnight.

Note: Flavor of peaches becomes stronger when stored several days.
