Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 (2-inch) cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 navel oranges
  • 3 grapefruits
  • 3 bananas
  • Garnish: cinnamon stick

Preparation

  1. Bring first 5 ingredients to a boil in a saucepan. Reduce heat to low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes. Stir in vanilla. Cool syrup. Discard cloves and cinnamon stick.
  2. Peel and section oranges and grapefruits, and place in a large bowl. Gently stir in syrup. Chill mixture, if desired. Slice bananas, and stir in just before serving. Garnish, if desired.
