Southern Cheese Grits

Yield 12 servings


  • 5 cups water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked quick grits
  • 1 (6-ounce) roll sharp cheese spread
  • 1 (6-ounce) roll garlic-cheese spread
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

How to Make It

  1. Bring water and salt to a boil in a large Dutch oven; gradually add grits, stirring constantly. Reduce heat; cook, uncovered, 3 minutes. Add cheese and butter; stir until melted. Add eggs, milk, and pepper; stir well.

  2. Pour mixture into a greased 3- quart casserole. Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Serve immediately.
