The recipe caught my eye because of the ingredients and I thought it would be worth a try for something quick on a busy night. I made the recipe exactly has written but when test tasted, I felt it was missing something. I added alittle sugar and a bit of heat to increase the flavor.

I too was disappointed. The flavor just wasn't there.

This recipe originally caught my eye because my son is a picky eater, but he LOVES Dr. Pepper. I did have to make the following changes to the recipe to accomodate his likes and dislikes: I diced a medium sweet onion instead of red onion slices. Omitted the olive oil because I used ground pork instead of ground round (my son won't eat red meat), using ground pork made the need to use 2 T of olive oil unnecessary. I browned the pork and cooked the onions all at the same time. I also omitted the pepperoncini but added 1/4 cup of the juice from a jar of Mt. Olive Kosher Dills with Texas Pete Hot Sauce Flavor. My son LOVED this recipe with the changes I mentioned above, and has asked me to make it TWO more times since I made the first batch. Maybe the addition of the Texas Pete Infused Pickle juice gave it the KICK it needed.

I made changes or additions as the original recipe was a bit bland. I added 2more garlic cloves, 2 tbs. juice from pepperoncinis, 1 healthy tbs. spicy mustard, increased Dr Pepper and omitted water. It turned out zippy w a sweet finish... but not overly sweet. Will definitely make again w changes.

Caught our eye for something different for sloppy joes to feed our church's youth group. Had to throw out a 4x batch--way too sweet and no flavor.
