Simple Gruyere Toasts

Serves 4 (serving size: 1 toast)

Though it's a hard cheese, aged Gruyère melts nicely. You could also use Swiss cheese.

Ingredients

  • 4 (1-ounce) slices whole-wheat country bread
  • Cooking spray
  • 1.5 ounces aged Gruyere cheese, shredded (about 1/3 cup)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives

How to Make It

  1. Preheat broiler to high.

  2. Arrange bread on a foil-lined baking sheet. Coat bread with cooking spray. Broil 1 minute or until toasted. Remove pan from oven; turn bread over. Divide cheese evenly among bread slices; sprinkle with chives. Broil 1 minute or until cheese melts.
