  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter milk
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten

How to Make It

  1. Combine flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Mix well, and set aside. Dissolve soda in butter milk; stir well, and set aside.

  2. Combine butter and molasses in a heavy saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Add to flour mixture. Stir in buttermilk mixture and egg.
