I have used this recipe for more than a decade as our traditional sweet potato dish on Thanksgiving. This started when we gathered with 12 friends & one oven & we needed a stovetop sweet potato recipe. The one thing I do differently, I use hard apple cider for half of the broth. It just adds a sweet flavor to the recipe that the broth doesn't. (That and it was one of the guidelines from that Thanksgiving long ago to have some kind of alcohol in your recipe) With the apples, this is also a kid favorite at our Thanksgiving dinners. Also, if you don't have time to stand & stir a hash, this can be roasted in the oven at about 400 degrees for 40-50 minutes...

Great recipe. I did add more bacon than called for. I deleted the allspice and added chives from my garden. I diced sweet potato small and it cooked in the time alloted. Very good combination of flavors. Thanks for the recipe
