Savory Baked Apples

    This was quite different, and very good. A nice lite supper werved with a few green beans from the garden. Here's the catch -- it's very time-consuming to make. Hollowing out the apples was no easy task. Considering the time required to make it, I would NOT do it again. A gratin or even a savory pie with similar flavors/ingredients could be an interesting experiment.

    I just had this at a friends house for lunch accompanied by scones. It was so delicious I had to comment. She did say it was a whole lot of work and doesn't think she would make it again.....BUT IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! She made this for 12 ladies!! Everyone commented. I think she cooked them in a muffin tin to keep them upright!!

    I thought this was an outstanding dish so did my family! It does take some time, but worth the effort. I used bulgar instead of brown rice and will make this again!

    LOVE this recipe! As others have said, it is a lot of work to carve out the apples. Unless I am making it for a special event, I probably wont do that again BUT I have made this many times by just adding chopped apple into the mix and serving it like a stir fry. Its just as tasty and easier!
