Savory Applesauce

Yield 1 1/2 cups


  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

How to Make It

  1. Bring first 4 ingredients to a boil in a saucepan; reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes. Cool slightly; discard cloves.

  2. Process apple mixture in a blender or food processor, in batches, until smooth. Return to saucepan, and stir in butter, horseradish, and lemon juice. Cook over low heat 2 to 3 minutes or until thoroughly heated.
