- 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 6 egg whites
- Chocolate Frosting
How to Make It
Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Combine milk and water. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix well after each addition. Stir in flavorings.
Beat egg whites (at room temperature) until stiff peaks form; fold into batter.
Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove layers from pans, and let cool completely.
Spread Chocolate Frosting between layers and on top and sides of cooled cake.
