Rich Butter Frosting

Yield enough for one 15- x 10- inch cake


  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make It

  1. Combine flour and milk in a medium saucepan; cook over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat; set aside.

  2. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, beating until very smooth.
