If you prefer a chewier texture, bake the granola bars only 15 minutes. For a crispier bar, bake 18 minutes. Wrap individual squares in heavy-duty plastic wrap and store in an airtight container.

Preheat oven to 350°.
Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife.
Cut butter into brown sugar with a pastry blender until crumbly. Stir in flour, oats, and next 5 ingredients.
Combine egg whites, applesauce, and vanilla; stir well. Add to oat mixture; stir well.
Press mixture into a 9-inch square baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares.
