Yield about 2 dozen

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins

How to Make It

  1. Sift together dry ingredients; cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add eggs and milk, stirring until well blended. Stir in raisins.

  2. Turn dough out onto a well-floured surface, and lightly knead 7 to 8 times.

  3. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on greased baking sheets. Bake at 400° for 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
