Praline Cake

Yield one 8- inch cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Praline Glaze

How to Make It

  1. Cream shortening and sugar; add egg, beating well. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla.

  2. Pour batter into a heavily greased 8-inch round or square cake pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool slightly. Spread Praline Glaze over cake. Bake at 350° for 5 minutes.
