I made this cake for my sister-in-law's birthday (she LOVES pistachios) and it was a hit! The cake was a bit labor intensive but well worth it. However, I would NOT recommend using the "frosting" (much more like icing)!! It would not stay on the cake, it just oozed off of the sides onto the plate. I refrigerated it for a couple of hours and while this helped, by the time I got it to her house and it was time to blow out the candles, the icing was once again oozing onto the cake plate and it was not pretty! I recommend going with a regular cream cheese frosting (and it just tastes better...this recipe did not have much of a cream cheese flavor). Other than frosting issues, this cake was delicious and I plan on making it again next year!

Made this cake today for my birthday and absolutely loved it. Followed recipe but made the following changes to the frosting: subbed mascarpone for the cream cheese and added 1/2 tsp cardamom--took this cake to the next level! If you're a pistachio lover, this is the cake for you.
