Peppery Molasses Cookies

These are really spicy...the black pepper gives them a kick!

Yield: 3 1/2 to 4 dozen


  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • Additional sugar


  1. Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl until fluffy. Beat in egg; add molasses.
  2. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients. Gradually add to butter mixture; mix well. Form into one-inch balls and roll in sugar. Arrange 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove and cool on wire racks.
