Combine shortening, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a large mixing bowl, beating well. Add eggs and milk; beat until well blended.
Sift together flour, soda, and salt in a small mixing bowl. Add to sugar mixture, stirring well. Fold in raisins and pecans.
Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheets; flatten each cookie slightly using the back of a spoon. Bake at 350° for 12 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets, and cool on wire racks.
