Pecan Chess Pie

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 egg yolks
1 (5.33-ounce) can evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 unbaked (9-inch) pastry shell
2/3 cup coarsely chopped pecans


Cream butter in a medium mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add flour, salt, and egg yolks; mix well. Stir in milk and vanilla. Pour filling into pastry shell; sprinkle with pecans. Bake at 425° for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 300°, and bake an additional 35 minutes. Cool before slicing.
