    Worthy of a Special Occasion

    We loved this famous soup! I did not alter any ingredients. I served the soup with Caesar salad and garlic biscuits. I will definately add to "My Favorites." The two different beans is what makes it so tasty and special.

    I have never written a recipe review before but this was so delicious that I had to review it! I made a few minor substitutions based on personal preference. I used ground hot italian turkey sausage rather than the ground round. I also ommitted the celery and added extra carrots. I doubled the crushed red pepper for extra kick - and I used small wheat pasta shells rather than the macaroni. My husband loved the flavor and the heartiness of the beans and broth. It was amazing. I love to make soups and do very often - and this is probably the best I have made to date! It is definitely a meal on it's own.

    With the beans and the pasta and veggies, this is a great comfort food soup and with the tomatoe base, it's even better the next day. After reading the reviews I also made modifications; used ground turkey (little more than 1 lb.),1 cup of the carrots and celery, a little more salt and red pepper and 1 cup of pasta shells. I should've added more broth and/or crushed tomatoes b/c my volume of liquid was greatly decreased after increasing my veggies, pasta and meat...next time. This is a great soup to take to a fall or winter time potluck and cheap!

    This soup is really delicious! So filling and comforting. I like alleyflowers' alterations - obviously based on personal preference - but I also recommend trying the recipe just as is initially and then modify as you like thereafter. The crushed red pepper is a good addition. Doodles says to try with ceasar salad and garlic bread - excellent idea !

    Excellent......Served for dinner tonight.....and was told I hit a home run with this soup.....made it exactly as stated....and served with warm croissant rolls.....Delicous.

    Excellent meal-in-one soup. I sauteed 1/2 lb hot Italian sausage with 1/2 lb ground round for the meat but followed the rest of the recipe faithfully. Yum! It was really really good.
