Oven-Barbecued Country Pork Ribs

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil, divided
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 4 whole cloves
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon chili powder
- 4 drops hot sauce
- 4 to 5 pounds pork ribs
Preparation
- Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until golden brown. Add remaining ingredients, except ribs; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer sauce 45 minutes.
- Place ribs in a single layer in a 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking pan. Bake at 325° for 40 minutes. Drain off pan drippings; discard. Pour barbecue sauce over ribs. Bake at 325° 40 minutes or until tender. Remove cloves and bay leaf before serving.
