Oven-Barbecued Chicken

Ingredients

  • 1 (3- to 3 1/2-pound) broiler-fryer, cut up
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup catsup
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons prepared mustard

How to Make It

  1. Brown chicken in shortening in an ovenproof Dutch oven over medium heat. Combine next 10 ingredients, mixing well; pour sauce over chicken. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Uncover; transfer to oven, and bake at 350° for 35 minutes.
