Orange Pound Cake with Fresh Orange Syrup

Yield 1 (10") cake
Pound cake is the Southern dessert for all occasions. This orange-scented version makes a nice finish for the holiday meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons orange extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Fresh Orange Syrup

How to Make It

  1. Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer about 2 minutes or until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating 5 to 7 minutes. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating just until yellow disappears.

  2. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt; add to butter mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat at low speed just until blended after each addition. Stir in flavorings. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10" tube pan.

  3. Bake at 350° for 55 minutes or until a long wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack 10 to 15 minutes; remove from pan, and cool on wire rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with Fresh Orange Syrup.
