Oatmeal Cookies
This is the old recipe that was on the Quaker Oats container. I grew up with this one, I think it's better than what they have now

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup(s) shortening
- 1 cup(s) brown sugar
- 1/2 cup(s) sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup(s) water
- 1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
- 1 cup(s) flour
- 1 teaspoon(s) salt
- 1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
- 3 cup(s) oatmeal
- 1 cup(s) raisins optional
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350*. Cream shortening and sugars together. Mix in the egg, water and vanilla. In another bowl mix together the flour, salt and baking soda. Slowly add the flour mixture and the oatmeal to the shortening mixture then the oatmeal and raisins if using them. Drop by teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
