How to Make It

Step 1

Cream shortening in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating well. Stir in eggs and vanilla.

Step 2

Combine flour, soda, and salt in a small mixing bowl; add flour mixture to creamed mixture, stirring well. Stir in oats and coconut.

Step 3

Shape dough into 1-inch balls; place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets, and cool on wire racks.
