  1. Combine cold butter Topping for coffee cake and 1/4 cup of sugar in a bowl. with two knives or a pastry blender, cut them together until the butter is in small pieces and uniform crumbles formed.Add nuts and toss until combined. Sprinkle the topping over the batter and bake as directed.
