A very pretty cake, but not near as good as the old fashion. It has way to many strong flavors jumping at you. I didnt lioke the choice of candy, didnt need the over the edge, thats where you have to be careful, alot isnt always better, sometimes you just leave a good thing alone.

I was soooo looking forward to making this recipe! I had fresh blackberries and everything! But I have to say that I was a little let down. There is just too many flavors going on in this for me to truly enjoy! I think it would have been fine, maybe even perfect, without the addition of the orange chocolate bar at the end. It just pushed it a little too far over the edge, making it hard to enjoy the blackberries. The mixture of the orange and the blackberry isn't my favorite, and the chunks in the cake take away from it's inherant moist texture that could stand all on it's own! I will make again, but not with any candy bars next tiime!

I skipped the blackberry filling and just used a good chocolate frosting and some orange marmalade between the layers. Next time I would even forego the marmalade, but this was a very good, very simple recipe. People liked the bit of heat from the spices and the crisp contrast from the chocolate bar. Def worth trying again.
