Top your favorite sugar cookies with Mulled Wine Glaze. Not only does the glaze lend mulled wine flavor, you also get a wine tint to the glaze.
Makes about 1 1/4 cups, enough to glaze 48 cookies
1 cup red wine (such as Merlot)
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
1 (4- x 1/2-inch) orange peel strip
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 cups powdered sugar
Bring wine, brown sugar, orange peel strip, ground allspice, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, and ground cinnamon to a boil in a saucepan over high heat; boil 7 to 10 minutes or until reduced to 1/4 cup. Remove from heat, and stir in kosher salt until dissolved. Discard orange peel, and stir in powdered sugar until smooth.
