Mulled Wine

Yield Makes 10 servings


  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 2 (2 1/2-inch) cinnamon sticks
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 12 allspice berries
  • 2 (750-milliliter) bottles or 1 (1.5-liter) bottle dry red wine
  • Garnishes: cinnamon sticks, orange rind curls

How to Make It

  1. Combine first 7 ingredients in a Dutch oven over medium heat; bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes. Add wine; simmer 10 minutes. Pour mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a container; discard solids. Garnish, if desired.

  2. Note: For testing purposes only, we used Gallo Hearty Burgundy wine.
