Julia found this recipe in a cookbook by the Junior League of Montgomery, Alabama, where the punch is a town staple.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup brandy
  • Ice Ring
  • 2 (750-milliliter) bottles chilled sparkling wine
  • 1 (375-milliliter) bottle chilled dessert wine (such as Sauternes)
  • Garnishes: orange slices, lemon slices, cranberries

How to Make It

  1. Stir together first 2 ingredients until sugar dissolves. Stir in brandy. Pour over Ice Ring in a punch bowl. Stir in sparkling and dessert wines.
