Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup(s) shortening softened
  • 1 cup(s) brown sugar packed firmly
  • 1/4 cube(s) molasses
  • 2 1/4 cup(s) flour
  • 2 teaspoon(s) baking soda
  • 1/4 cup(s) salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) cloves
  • 1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon(s) ginger

Preparation

  1. Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses thoroughly. Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting. Blend all driy ingredients stir in. Chill. Heat oven 375º. Roll dough into balls the size of large walnuts. Dip tops in sugar, place sugar ise up. 3" apart on greased baking sheet. Sprinkle each ith 2 or 3 drops of wate.r Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
