Don't fill the glass with crushed ice - it's not the right presentation for this drink. Instead, strain into a glass with ice cubes once the rest of the ingredients have been combined. I did like the ratio of rum to club soda, as well as the ratio of sugar to mint in this version.

Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 10 small mint leaves
- 1/4 cup white rum
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1 (6-ounce) bottle club soda, chilled
- 1 mint sprig (optional)
Preparation
- Place sugar and mint in a tall glass; crush with the back of a long spoon. Fill glass with crushed ice. Add rum, juice, and club soda. Garnish with mint sprig, if desired.
